Sam was my school trumpet teacher back in 1962 at the Manor Boys School on Arbury Road Cambridge. After all these years I had the privilege of contacting him recently and have had many delightful phone calls. I now live in Australia but am grateful that we caught up. I am now the proud owner of one of this favourite trumpets which I will use and care for. Until the end he always called me "Boy". RIP Sam, Michael Butler.

And so one by one time took them to his care. Those broken lanterns that held his fire. Sam, you will be remebered and we have lost another of the old school of sportsmen.
